Sleep

Long exposures of myself sleeping.

I open the shutter, go to sleep, wake up and close the shutter.

Initially, it was an experiment to see what it would look like to capture all the motion (or stillness) of my body while sleeping. It seemed that I did move a lot, but there were several positions in which I stayed long enough to be captured as a recognizable figure.

Unexpectedly, I discovered a beautiful smoothness of light that the long exposure captured. As the sun rose, light filtered into my room and it gradually glossed onto the film, like a painter who uses several coats.

This now makes me interested in experimenting more with extreme long exposures and how that can capture light that secretly moves over a long period of time.
